I am a personal trainer, nutrition coach, mother of two little girls and an incurable fitness junkie. I have been fit the majority of my life, however, I wasn't always healthy. I struggled with eating disorders as a young adult and I went through a lengthy period in my late twenties to early thirties where I was overweight and out of shape--it was not the best of times for me. (See my before and after photos below.) By my late 30's I pulled it together and established new and healthier relationships with food and exercise. At 41 years old, I am happy to say that I am in the best shape of my life! This is very gratifying for me because when I was 19 years old, a highly respected exercise science professor told me (during my body composition testing) that he was impressed with the percentage of body fat I had compared to my fat-free body mass. He also said "enjoy it while you can--you will never be as lean and fit as you are now." That was just scary talk! I'm glad to say that he was wrong. At the age of 19 I tested at 19% body fat. Pretty good! At the age of 41 I tested at 12% body fat and preserved my healthy fat-free mass.
Once I realized that no one, other than me, had the authority to decide what my fitness limits are, I knew it had to be true for others as well. I'm not special. If I can be fit, then others can be fit, too! I believe high levels of fitness and a beautifully shaped body can be had at any age and starting at any fitness level. Our bodies respond incredibly well to training and proper nutrition. If we can imagine it, we can achieve it!
